Williams County, North Dakota: title research
Deed, mortgage and tract index records digitized from patent to present.
Recording office and records
- Recording office
- The Williams County Recorder's Office, which records documents that affect title to real property and keeps grantor/grantee indexes and a land tract index.
- Date range
- The county says all historical images, documents and tract index books have been digitized, indexed and made searchable from patent to the present.
- How records are organized
- Tract, subdivision and farm unit indexes run from patent to present online (paper versions in the office cover patent to 1990). Deed, mortgage and miscellaneous books are online as digitized books to 1982, digitized microfilm card scans from 1982 to 1990, and computer-indexed documents from 1990 on.
- Online search
- Through iDocMarket. The county's page says to search by one criterion at a time: land description, party name, book and page or recording number, date, or document title.
Good to know
- On iDocMarket the book number is entered as four digits with leading zeros, or picked from a drop-down list.
- The Recorder's Office says it cannot determine mineral ownership. That work is done by a landman or an attorney.
Title research in Williams County
Send the legal description and how far back you need and we will scope a runsheet, abstract or set of images for Williams County. Williams County has records digitized back to patent, and the older ones are scans of bound books. We use tools to make those pages searchable where the print allows, and a landman reads the rest. A patent to present chain is long, so we can split it among landmen to finish on time. See oil and gas title work, title research, title curative services and the samples.
