Contract role

Land records imaging and data entry technician

For someone who is dependable, tidy and good at repetitive detail work.

Summary

Imaging is how a courthouse record becomes a file someone can use. A technician finds the right instrument, photographs or scans it cleanly, names it correctly and sends it in. The job is mostly care and consistency.

Duties

  • Travel to a courthouse or county office and locate the listed instruments.
  • Image them with a scanner or a camera, with the whole page in frame and readable.
  • Check each image against the instrument you were asked for.
  • Name and sort the images to the project's naming scheme.
  • Enter index data, such as book, page, date and parties, into a spreadsheet.
  • Upload the files at the end of the day.

Requirements

These are the things postings for this work usually ask for.

  • A valid driver's license and a vehicle for courthouse days.
  • A computer, and a phone or camera that takes sharp, high resolution photos.
  • Attention to detail, and the patience to check your own work.
  • Postings for this work often say no prior experience is needed and that training is provided.
  • Basic spreadsheet and file skills.

Day-rate range

$22 to $28 per hour
About $175 to $225 for an 8 hour day.

Typical market range. Final rate is set by experience and project.

One contract posting for document imaging at county courthouses listed $22 to $28 an hour on an 8 hour shift, with mileage reimbursed and no experience required.

Where these ranges come from: public contract job postings on job boards and company career pages, pay reporting published by the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), an industry cost report and pay discussions among working landmen, read in October 2026. Rates differ by region, such as the Permian Basin, the Williston Basin, the DJ Basin and Appalachia, and by experience. They are market ranges, not an offer.

How we pay

1099 independent contractor, invoiced each week or every two weeks. Rate and terms are confirmed in writing before work starts.
